LETTER FROM VICAR STEVE
Dear brothers and sisters at Trinity,
This letter is one of my good-byes to you all. As you all know, July 13 th will be my last Sunday here at Trinity, and then my family and I are off the Detroit, Mi. suburbs to serve at Grace Lutheran Church. Let me start with my call. Many have asked about it, so let me describe it again. Grace Lutheran Church is a small church in Canton, Michigan. Canton is a suburb of Detroit with a population of about 76,000 people. It is part of a county (Wayne County) that has a population of about 4.5 million people, so you can see that this area of the country is neighborhood after neighborhood with strip malls interspersed in between. But my family and I are used to the big city so this will not be a problem for us (instead of hearing trains we will hear sirens, airplanes, and the freeway. If the home we made an offer on indeed is sold to us, our backyard will be right next to one of the major freeways in Detroit). In contrast to all of this, Grace Lutheran is small. They worship about 75 people on a weekend and have a total baptized membership of 119 people. They have two services on Sunday, one of which is a blended service and the other very contemporary. The church is ten years old, having originally begun as a mission start. There are, for the size, lots of youth and a healthy mix of most age groups, and they seem to be a great bunch of folks. I am very excited to serve there. The people of Grace seem like fine people and Grace has potential to grow and reach out to the community. Also, that part of Michigan is home for us. We used to live about twenty minutes drive from where Grace is. Further, I am excited because I believe I am ready. I know I will only be a rookie pastor, but it is right for the time of training to end and for me to move on to the next level. The seminary has trained me well; Pastor has instructed me in the ways of being a pastor; and you all have taught me how to love, serve, and be served by God's people. (And by the way, Pastor has been a great mentor! Indeed, it has been a privilege to serve under him). Your being willing to serve me and my family will bless the church because now I am better prepared to serve a congregation as their pastor; you have blessed me because you all provided a place where I could learn and succeed and you have blessed my family because you provided a place for them. I want to honor what you have done for me, Vicar Fenster, and what you will do for your new vicar, Greg Enterline. For us to love others, that is, to be in a relationship with another, we need to take a risk, a risk where it is the possibility that the other person or persons will reject us or in someway let us down. But you all have taken that risk with your vicars and you are to be commended for it, for by doing so you have served God and the church. The Apostle John wrote “ Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God”. This you have done!
And so, it is with a mix of sadness and joy that I leave. But there are no mixed emotions in my thanks to you for your love and service to me! May God bless you this year, and in the years ahead.
Vicar Steve

Trinity Lutheran's turn to provide Sunday night supper is coming up on Sunday, July 20th. It's an opportunity for us to help out local folks who have fallen on hard times. More families are coming because their paychecks no longer stretch to cover food, gas, utilities, etc. Our help is needed now more than ever.
Project Hunger bought a new gas grill that we could use if we get some volunteer hamburger and hotdog cooks. We need a total of 8 volunteers; a couple to man the grill and the rest to set up, serve, and clean up. It's a chance to do a good thing and have fun at the same time.
Please call Joan Gardner at 395-9505 if you'll be able to help that evening from about 4:00—7:00 p.m. Food is served from 5:15—6:30 p.m. so it's not a late night.

CHRISTCARE MINISTRY
CHRISTCARE GROUPS
Trinity has always had caring members. This has even been more evident during the last year as ChristCare ministry has grown and members have kept the mission statement in the forefront of their lives. I have seen members reaching out to those that are hurting, sharing smiles with those having a rough day, taking meals to those in need, welcoming other cultures, those with special needs, guest and new members into our church family. Christ Cared for everyone HE met! Thank you Trinity members for taking His example and doing the same.

HEALTH TEAM Make Family Time Active Time - Have fun getting fit, together. The latest dietary guidelines for Americans recommend that children and teens be physically active for at least 60 minutes on most, if not all, days. So why not include your kids in your fitness efforts and make it a family affair? Along with eating right, exercise can help the whole family maintain a healthy lifestyle and prevent weight gain. Trying to get in 60 minutes of moderate or vigorous exercise on most days may seem like a lot. But you can do it, and doing it with the family can make it easier. You can:
Bike to the library together.
Go to your children's sports events and cheer for them. Have them come to yours and cheer for you.
Celebrate a birthday or anniversary with something active — a hike, a volleyball game, a Frisbee match.
Make a plan with your spouse or child to train together to walk or run a 5K race.
Besides the health benefits, an active lifestyle can be lots of fun. There are many other ways to get your family moving — just use your imagination!
